I believe that God has a purpose for all of us, and I’m blessed to have found mine through photography. I love capturing special moments in my clients’ lives and creating genuine, happy memories with every session.
Northern Michigan has always felt like home to me, and evenings like this one at Black Rocks in Marquette remind me exactly why. When Allie reached out after getting engaged and texted me, “It’s FINALLY my turn!” I couldn’t stop smiling. I’ve photographed her best friend, Jaime, and her family for years at weddings, family sessions, and celebrations, and over time they’ve turned into real friends. Getting to photograph Allie and Ben during such an exciting season felt extra special.

Allie has always loved Black Rocks in Marquette, Michigan. The dark cliffs, the crashing waves, and the way the light hits Lake Superior right before sunset make it one of the most stunning spots in the Upper Peninsula. Even though we had already done a first engagement session for them at Brown Bridge in Traverse City, she wanted photos at one of her favorite places in Marquette, and I couldn’t have agreed more.
We spent the evening climbing over the rocks, laughing, chasing the golden light, and watching the sky soften over the lake. The sun sank lower, the waves got louder, and the whole session felt relaxed and genuine. There were no stiff poses and no forced moments, just two people enjoying being together in a place they both love. Ben and Allie were completely in their element, and it shows in every frame.
If you’re considering Black Rocks for your own engagement session, there’s a lot to love. The rugged rock ledges give you natural levels and texture to work with. The cliffs add drama, and the open horizon over Lake Superior means the sunset light is soft, warm, and glowing. Every direction offers a different backdrop, from crashing waves to quiet, glassy water.
A few things I always tell couples:
The Upper Peninsula is one of my favorite places to shoot, whether that’s a Sugarloaf Mountain elopement, a Marquette wedding, or an engagement session at the Black Rocks of Michigan along Lake Superior… It always gives couples something beautiful and natural to work with, and no two sessions ever look the same. The landscape does so much of the work, and my job is to capture the connection between two people against it.
If you’re dreaming of a wedding day, elopement, or engagement session up here, do it. Black Rocks and the rest of Marquette are worth every mile.
