My favorite wedding days are the ones where you can feel the love pouring in from the couple and their loved ones… and Lexi and Joe’s wedding day at Black Star Farms in Suttons Bay was exactly that. Their family and friends brought heirlooms and their day was filled with so much love, laughter, and the small details that remind me why weddings are so special.
Small Details That Made the Day
Lexi and Joe chose Black Star Farms for both their ceremony and reception. This is such a gorgeous venue in Northern Michigan, their vineyards are a vibrant green and every venue space is elegant. It was truly the perfect venue for their special day. What stood out to me the most however, were the personal touches integrated throughout the day. Here’s just a few personal tidbits that tugged on my heartstrings:
- Lexi’s dad, Tom, handmade the beautiful wooden cross that was placed behind the spot where Lexi and Joe said ‘I do’.
- During dinner, Lexi dedicated her bouquet to her mom, a beautiful gesture that had the entire family, including her sisters, in tears (and me behind the camera).
- Lexi and Joe took an extra step and made each and everyone of their guests feel loved, writing each person a handwritten note waiting for them at their seat.
These weren’t just small details, they showed the love that was present at their wedding.
Private Vows at Black Star Famrs
Before the day got started, Lexi and Joe decided to share private vows in the treehouse at Black Star Farms. They didn’t want a camera there, just the two of them, their words, and a moment for themselves. This was one of those decisions that speaks volumes about who they are as a couple, intentional and centered on what matters most, each other.
Reception Details No One Will Forget
Once dinner was over, and Lexi’s dad delivered a hilarious speech that had everyone cracking up, the celebration moved to Pegasus Barn. Where:
- The couple honored Joe’s grandparents with the longest-married dance, a tradition that felt extra special surrounded by generations of love.
- Lexi shared an unplanned dance with her grandpa, one of the sweetest surprises of the night
- To make this night even more memorable, Lexi’s grandpa brought a 50-year-old bottle of whiskey that was given to him by his best friend. A few of them obviously had to take a quick shot of it.
